West Barrage Sea

sea of famine

The Nampho Dam is an 8 kilometer long system of damns built in the 1980's in North Korea intended to boast the marvels of North Korea's engineering capabilities.  However, the raised water levels created by the dam caused the destruction of crucial farmland and is believed to be one of the factors leading to the great famine of the 1990s.

Exhibited at the Manilatown Heritage Foundation Center Gallery in San Francisco April through May 2015.
